“Become a landlord for the price of a coffee” is a line that invites daydreaming. Imagine a little building and a gold bar neatly arranged in your digital wallet. RWA is interesting because a token can connect to a familiar asset in the real world. But buying a coin with a building on it does not give you rental income rights.
Let's understand the idea through everyday examples, then compare ONDO, LINK and POLYX on Korean exchanges. Sources and trading screens were checked on 14 September 2026. These are examples, not a popularity ranking or a list of recommended purchases.
One RWA theme, three different price paths
Each token starts at 100 on the first date of the selected period, making relative changes in ONDO, LINK and POLYX comparable.
Through the 2026-09-13 candle · Retrieved 2026-09-14 15:26 KST · Saved data, not live prices.
Dates identify the start of each UTC daily candle, running from 09:00 Korea time to 09:00 the next day. Incomplete candles are excluded. Above 100 means a gain from the first date; below 100 means a loss. Changing the period resets the baseline. These are traded token prices, not Treasury or property returns or an index of the entire RWA market.

RWA is closer to a digital record of rights
RWA stands for Real World Assets. In blockchain discussions, it usually concerns representing assets or related rights—such as government bonds, gold, property or credit—with tokens. The physical object does not move into the internet; the way rights are recorded and transferred changes. The concept of asset tokenization
Imagine a group investing in the building that houses a bakery. Ownership or income rights could be divided into smaller units and represented digitally. This is a fictional teaching example. A real offering must first establish whether investors have equity, a debt claim or another contractual entitlement. Counting tokens cannot tell you what you legally own.
Five steps connect an asset to your wallet
The chain is “real asset → legal structure → custody and management → token issuance → trading and redemption.” A building can exist while the contract fails to give you useful rights. A valid contract can still leave you waiting for a redemption window. Both onchain records and offchain promises matter.
RWA can make smaller units and improved transfers or settlement possible. But transferring a token around the clock is different from cashing out at your preferred price around the clock. Operating hours, willing buyers, checks and redemption conditions still apply. A digital theme-park ticket does not abolish closing time.
The system behind the token in your wallet
Follow the flow from top to bottom: five steps connect a digital token to rights in the real world.
- Real assetsSelect assets such as Treasuries, gold or property, then verify their existence and value.
- Legal rights & custodyDefine the issuer, legal claims and custody arrangement. Who holds the assets and takes responsibility?
- Issue tokensConnect the product’s rights and rules to digital records, then issue its tokens.
- Hold & transferHold, trade and settle between permitted wallets and investors.
- Request redemptionAfter checking conditions, process token burning or collection and payment. Methods vary by product.
Three different roles on Korean exchanges
The examples below had KRW markets on Upbit's current asset pages. An ONDO trading screen was also available on Bithumb. Listings, deposits, withdrawals and eligibility can change; check the exchange before use. International readers should not assume that they can open a Korean exchange account or trade in KRW.
| Asset | Connection to RWA | Korean markets checked | What holding it does not automatically provide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ondo Finance ONDO | Governance in the Ondo ecosystem | Upbit KRW and Bithumb KRW | US Treasury interest rights |
| Chainlink LINK | External data and cross-chain infrastructure | Upbit KRW | Ownership or dividends from connected assets |
| Polymesh POLYX | Utility on a blockchain for regulated assets | Upbit KRW | Ownership of securities issued on that chain |

ONDO is different from products with related names
ONDO is a governance token, not the same product as Ondo's Treasury-related OUSG or USDY. Buying ONDO on an exchange does not automatically pay you government bond income. Ondo Foundation explanation
OUSG primarily provides exposure to short-term US government securities, while USDY is a separate tokenized financial product. Direct access has product-specific eligibility, jurisdiction and onboarding conditions. Growth in an RWA business also does not imply a matching increase in ONDO's price. OUSG overview, USDY basics, USDY eligibility.
LINK and POLYX are more like infrastructure than shops
Chainlink connects external information to blockchains and supports moving assets and data across chains. Its uses extend beyond RWA. If an asset is a shop, these services resemble communications networks and connecting roads. Holding LINK does not give you a share in that shop. Cross-chain assets and Chainlink
POLYX is used for Polymesh network fees, staking and governance, among other functions. It is distinct from individual assets issued on the network. Holding a road-toll token does not make you the owner of a building beside the road. Official POLYX documentation
Knowing what you own makes the subject more interesting
Ask three questions. Is this a claim on an asset or a token used in a project's operation? Who holds the asset, and under what conditions can it be redeemed? What specific mechanism transfers business success to tokenholders? Different answers can mean very different investments under the same RWA label.
Also examine circulating supply and token unlocks. Usage can grow while supply entering the market grows faster, leaving price behind expectations. Asset values, issuer credit, contracts, smart contracts and trading liquidity still introduce risk. “Real world” does not mean principal protection.
Once you understand RWA, a token list starts to look different: an asset-backed product, its surrounding ecosystem and the infrastructure linking products are different things. Today's achievement is learning whether you are buying a building, a key or a signpost before imagining yourself a landlord.
