You have booked the train home for Chuseok, while your cat has booked a seat on your suitcase. For your household VIP, the holiday may ideally feel much like an ordinary day. Put a pet-care timetable beside your travel itinerary.
This guide is for people arranging dog or cat care in Korea. Sources were checked at 17:10 KST on September 23, 2026. It does not recommend individual providers or report live availability.
Key points
- Visiting care, in-home stays and boarding differ in environment and time without a carer. Start with your pet’s needs.
- A 30-minute appointment does not mean all-day care. Ask who responds between visits and overnight.
- Agree on an introduction, handover notes, backup carer, emergency contacts and total price in writing.
Why visiting care is drawing attention today
An Edaily article published at 13:54 today covered demand for visiting pet sitters ahead of Chuseok. Its sidebar placed it third in Edaily’s most-viewed stories for 15:00–16:00 when checked. That is one publisher’s readership ranking, not a ranking of all Naver searches. Edaily report
A more useful question than “Which is best?” is “Who can provide the care my pet needs, where and when?” Use that question to compare the setting, gaps, handover, unexpected events and cost.
1. Write down an ordinary day before choosing a place
Cats Protection explains that suitability for home or boarding can depend on a cat’s temperament. RSPCA also advises considering the individual dog. Our booking questions below build on that distinction. Cats Protection guidance · RSPCA guidance
| Care arrangement | First question | Coverage to put in the timetable |
|---|---|---|
| Visiting sitter | Which tasks will be completed within the visit? | Before the first visit, between visits and after the last |
| Carer staying in your home | What are the actual hours present and away? | Outings and changes of carer |
| Pet hotel or boarding | What is the actual accommodation and overnight response? | Before check-in, overnight and after collection |
Avoid automatically assigning cats to visits and dogs to boarding. Describe normal time alone, reactions to unfamiliar people and places, and feeding and walking routines. Share those details with candidates. If continuous observation or special health care is needed, discuss care requirements with your vet first.

- 02Check in advanceCarer, space and hours present
- 03Handover and backupNotes, contacts and cover
- 04Report and returnTask records and owner handover
2. Draw the hours outside the “30-minute booking”
Here is a fictional example. You leave at 09:00 on Saturday and return at 20:00 on Sunday, but book only one visit at 18:00 on Saturday. You have a booking notification, but no plan explaining the full absence. This is not a prescription for visit frequency; it distinguishes one appointment from an overall care plan.
Write departure, visits, handovers and return in order, with a responsible person for every interval. Add who gets contacted and who steps in if a visit is delayed. If your return might slip, ask beforehand how extensions work and when you must notify the provider. “We’ll see” is difficult to enter in a timetable.
Ask boarding providers the same kind of question. Does “overnight supervision” mean an employee on site, remote checks or somebody responding after an alert? Clarify actual operations before assuming continuous face-to-face care.
3. Make the introduction a small rehearsal
After attractive accommodation photos or a well-reviewed profile, check the practical fit with your pet. For visits, walk through access and the care route; for boarding, inspect the actual space and handover. RSPCA recommends meeting carers and visiting boarding facilities, while Cats Protection advises preparing backup care for cancellation. RSPCA advance checks · Cats Protection preparation
Our suggested rehearsal has three questions: “How will you check a hiding animal?”, “What is the door-opening routine to prevent escape?” and “When will I hear about a replacement if the named carer cannot attend?” Record the arrangement that fits your home.
Share access details only through a limited channel with the responsible carer; do not post addresses or door codes publicly. Use time-limited access where available. If indoor cameras operate, disclose their location, operation and recording area and agree on the arrangement beforehand. After returning, confirm key return and removal of temporary access.
4. Replace “please handle everything” with one handover sheet
This blank framework is our editorial template. Fill it with actual details and check that the carer understands them. Relay medication instructions exactly as already provided by your vet; do not ask for improvised dose changes.
| Handover item | Information to leave | How to confirm completion |
|---|---|---|
| Daily routine | Feeding, water, toileting, walks, play and relevant precautions | Actual task times and changes noticed |
| Health information | Existing conditions, allergies, vet instructions and supply locations | Advance confirmation of the carer’s capabilities |
| Access and handover | Visit times, keys, entry procedure and carrier location | Arrival, departure and door-lock confirmation |
| Unexpected events | Owner, backup contact, usual vet and holiday clinic | Agreed contact order and transport responsibility |
| Return and closure | Expected return, delay notification, final report and key return | Owner’s actual resumption of care |
Instead of simply asking for photos, request arrival and departure times, completed tasks and anything unusual after each visit. Attractive photos belong in the holiday album; useful records help the next carer take over.
List a clinic only after directly checking its holiday opening arrangements. Agree on contact order when you cannot be reached, transport responsibility and payment handling. This sheet is not a diagnostic or first-aid protocol; seek veterinary guidance for health concerns.
5. Compare total quotes and change rules on equal terms
Try this enquiry: “I leave and return at these times, with this number of pets. The attached sheet specifies tasks and visit or stay requirements. Please provide the total price, excluded work, and change and cancellation terms in writing.”
Ask whether base care, holiday, travel, additional-pet or extension charges apply. This does not mean every provider charges them. If insurance is mentioned, request actual coverage, exclusions and the incident contact process. Obtain cancellation terms by date rather than assuming a particular refund.
A fictional quote A may be cheaper because necessary work is excluded; it is then not a like-for-like offer. Compare total prices for the same care requirements, then ask about differences. This guide does not reproduce unverified holiday rates or provider price lists.
Five boxes before you book
- Have you described everyday routines and required care?
- Is responsibility assigned from departure until your actual return?
- Have you completed the introduction and backup-carer check?
- Have you shared handover notes and holiday emergency contacts?
- Do you have total cost, exclusions and change rules in writing?
An empty box is a question to send before booking. Add continuity of care to the Chuseok checklist alongside your pet’s treats.
