1. Check your screen before a version in the news

The official list also includes iOS 26.7.1 on the same date. Do not judge a different update offered on your screen as a failure simply because another version has a higher number. 2. Check the last completed backup, not just the switch

An iCloud storage warning means you should not assume the backup finished. Clearing space on your phone does not automatically increase your cloud allowance. Here is a fictional example. The day before a trip, someone's photos open normally on the phone, but their last backup was a week ago. Separate “I can see my photos” from “my recent data has finished backing up.” Completing backup and installation outside the trip's schedule is an editorial planning suggestion. 3. Separate storage, download and installation problems

4. Preserve the exact error message
Download speed depends on file size and internet conditions. Apple recommends Wi-Fi and reducing other downloads. For repeated checking or verification errors, review its sequence of trying the same network, then another network or a computer. VPN or proxy connections may affect access to update servers. If the issue recurs across networks, official guidance describes deleting the update from the storage list and downloading it again. Deleting an update file is different from erasing the device. 5. Understand Update and Restore before selecting either
An Apple logo remaining for several minutes without a progress bar, or a Connect to Computer screen, may require a different official recovery procedure from an ordinary slow download. Apple's recovery guide says to try updating first if you have not already done so, and states that Restore reinstalls iOS and erases data.
