An advertisement displays “MFDS,” “clinical” and “recommended” in large letters, while the food category on the box is tiny. For a product bought for health, start with that small field. Marks answer different questions; they are not universal guarantees.
This consumer guide belongs to the September 29, 2026, 09:00 KST slot. Source checks and actual publication are recorded separately. It does not evaluate a particular product’s effectiveness or its suitability for an individual.
Key points
- Choose within the recognized functional claim; health functional foods do not replace disease treatment.
- GMP, HACCP and functional food labels answer different questions.
- Match the product and manufacturer, then check medicines and overlapping ingredients.

Main question: does an MFDS reference guarantee treatment?
Do not read it that way. Korea’s MFDS distinguishes ordinary food, health functional food and medicine. A functional benefit must not be expanded into a disease-treatment claim. For example, a statement about supporting circulation does not mean someone can stop medication. Do not stop prescribed medicine because of an advertisement. MFDS consumer guidance
First read the product photographs for the food category, health functional food designation and functional information. A brand, seller-designed badge or professional-looking portrait cannot substitute for these checks. Ordinary food can be a legitimate food product; being outside the health functional food category does not by itself make it fake or dangerous.
Read the label before the advertisement
Check what each mark addresses and its conditions, rather than counting marks.

How do GMP, HACCP and functional food labels differ?
| Mark or information | What it mainly addresses | What it does not establish by itself |
|---|---|---|
| Health functional food designation | Product made with recognized functional ingredients | Equal effects for everyone or disease treatment |
| GMP | Manufacturing and quality management | Treatment of a particular disease |
| HACCP | Control of hazards during manufacture | Recognition of a health functional claim |
| Functional information and precautions | This product’s functions and conditions of use | Automatic applicability to another product or person |
| Reviews and recommendation badges | Experiences or promotion presented by the seller | Official product identity or individual suitability |

How to search the official product record
The MFDS Health Functional Food Information Service offers product search fields including product name, functionality, manufacturer and notification number. Search the advertised name, then compare the manufacturer and functional information. A similar name alone does not establish a match. Official product search
No result does not immediately mean illegality. Check spelling, spacing and whether the advertised name matches the formal name on the package; ask the seller for manufacturing and notification details. A domestic Korean product search cannot settle every legality or safety question about an overseas direct purchase. If the identity remains unresolved, defer payment until it is confirmed.
For a fictional example, a listing called “Joint Gold Premium” may return only “Joint Gold” from the same brand. Do not merge them. Request a photograph of the back label, identify the formal name and manufacturer, then return to that product’s functional information. You are connecting the marketing name to the registered identity.
An easily missed distinction in oral albumin advertising
An MFDS notice posted April 30, 2026 distinguishes oral egg-white albumin food from human serum albumin injections made from human blood. Sharing the word albumin does not give a food the role of a treatment injection. This is existing consumer guidance, not a newly announced enforcement count today. Read the primary guidance
Break an advertisement into three questions: what category is the product, what is eaten or administered, and does the description go beyond the verified scope? Check the actual package instead of classifying every item named albumin together. Do not delay tests or medical care because a food advertisement claims to improve blood values.
Before-payment checklist and gifts already received
1. Use full package photographs to identify the formal name, manufacturer and product category. 2. Compare functional information with the advertisement; be cautious about expansions into treatment or cure. 3. Match the official record and ask the seller about discrepancies. 4. Read daily intake and precautions; list ingredients in products already at home. 5. If medicines, a health condition or pregnancy require an individual decision, show a doctor or pharmacist the product and medicine lists.
The MFDS service has medicine co-consumption information and duplicate health functional food intake checks. Use them as a starting point for looking at several bottles together. These menus do not diagnose every individual medicine combination or condition. MFDS information service
For an existing gift, photograph the label and make a list before discarding an expensive box. If instructions are missing or suitability is unclear, confirm them before rushing to consume it. A gift is a reason to check information, not an obligation to take it.
Naver interest evidence and the next check
The day’s 07:02 KST candidate record observed misleading health functional food advertising at number three in ZDNet Korea’s publisher-specific most-read news. In this slot, the current ranking page was reopened and compared with banking hours, pensions, travel and bedbug topics. This candidate’s 09:00 rank was not reconfirmed; no new rank or growth rate is claimed. These are publisher-specific article readership ranks, not Naver-wide keyword ranks or search volumes. The next useful check is the product’s current label and official record rather than its popularity. Match functionality, intake and precautions, then take unresolved questions to the seller or a healthcare professional. After the large brand lettering, read the small print.
